Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills are utilized by a broad range of health and social care professionals in diverse settings to facilitate behaviour/lifestyle change with clients.
When: Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th November, 2011. This is a two day workshop. Each day runs 9.30am - 4.30pm Where: Stewarts Hospital, Palmerstown, Dublin Course Facilitator: James O’Shea. James is an accredited psychotherapist, addiction counsellor, registered psychiatric nurse and registered general nurse. He has worked in the areas of Mental Health and Addiction in Irish settings for twenty five years. He has extensive experience training health and social care professionals in the area of Motivational Interviewing. Course Aims: To introduce participants to the basic concepts, principles and strategies of Motivational Interviewing. Course Content The workshop will contain a mix of theory and practical sessions to include; • Introduction to concepts of behaviour change • Overview of Motivational Interviewing • Principles of Motivational Interviewing • Overview of the transtheoretical model of change • Introduction to the early strategies of Motivational Interviewing • Spirit of Motivational Interviewing • Dealing with ambivalence and resistance to change • Application of principles and strategies to participants’ practice setting Course Fee: €90 for AOTI members. €160 for non members.
