The AOTI Research Committee serves to promote research practices within the AOTI membership and the occupational therapy body in Ireland Specifically the role of the committee is to:
The Research Committee MembershipThe committee is made up of occupational therapists from both clinical and academic backgrounds who all share an interest in research. The committee meets approximately five times a year and in the interim communicate extensively via email. Information on the following is provided here
1. AOTI research protocol on accessing members’ databaseAOTI has a formal procedure governing how researchers access the AOTI database for research purposes. This is now available as a down load from this page. In order to facilitate research in occupational therapy in Ireland we encourage you, as a member of AOTI, to log in and edit your membership details and tick the box which states that you are willing to participate in research. This will enable the AOTI office to send you an email inviting you to participate in research. Your email is NEVER given directly to a researcher. 2. Accessing the AOTI database for researchAOTI as an organisation supports research and if the procedure outlined is followed, research details will be forwarded to the members of AOTI on the database who have expressed an interest in participating in research. Members of AOTI can access the AOTI database for research following the procedure with no charge. For non-members of AOTI there is a fee of €30 for this service.
3. Catalogue of dissertation abstractsThis catalogue holds brief details of the research projects conducted by students of Occupational Therapy at the National University of Ireland, Galway; Trinity College Dublin; University College Cork and the University of Limerick. Specifically, it lists the title, investigator/author’s name, researchers’ contact details, date of project completion, three key words and abstract of each research study. It is hoped that this electronic catalogue is of interest to members as well as allowing future researchers build on previous studies and furthering others’ research by reducing repetition.
4. Submitting a dissertation abstractAll successful research projects conducted by students of Occupational Therapy at the National University of Ireland, Galway; Trinity College Dublin; University College Cork and the University of Limerick are welcome to be submitted for the AOTI catalogue. Specifically, the Research committee wishes to list the title, investigator/author’s name, researchers’ contact details, date of project completion, three key words and abstract of each research study. University names will not be appear on the catalogue of abstracts. If a person, accessing the catalogue, wishes to know more about your research project they will need to contact you directly. 5. Research awardsFunding for the Norah Ferris Award has been discontinued. The committee is currently seeking sponsors for two research awards for occupational therapists.
6. Research resourcesThis section provides details and links to some useful research resources. While the AOTI Research Committee does not endorse any one resource it hopes they will be of use to researchers.
