THIS COURSE IS NOW FULL. Please email to join the waiting list. This one-day workshop aims to enable OTs to better understand fatigue, identify and assess fatigue, and implement appropriate treatment programmes within the context of their clinical areas as part of a wider healthcare team.

Fatigue is one of the most common presenting complaints in primary care, being the primary complaint in 5-10% of presentations and an associated complaint in a further 10% of family practice consultations. Almost half of those presenting with symptoms of severe fatigue remain fatigued 12 months later. Fatigue is a common underlying symptom with many chronic conditions and has particular relevance for those with multimorbidity.

  • What is fatigue?
  • Primary and secondary fatigue
  • Models from cancer and CFS/ME
  • Barriers to engagement when someone has fatigue
  • Common challenges
  • The role of activity
  • Principles of engagement
  • Key factors to be considered in assessment
  • Use of standardised assessments tools
  • Comparisons between different clinical areas
  • Discussion on how to increase successful outcomes in practice
  • Strategies for establishing baselines and setting graded incremental programme


Booking: Booking is via the form below. Please note payment is taken at the time of booking. Payments are refunded to those applicants who are not offered a place on the workshop. As this is a HSE-funded workshop, prioirty must be given to HSE employees. Private sector OTs are also very welcome to apply.

Cancellation Policy: In the event that you cancel your place 5 or more working days before the workshop a 50% refund will be provided. No refund will be provided for cancellations after this time unless the place can be re-allocated to the waiting list.

Weather warnings:

In the event of severe weather, AOTI is guided by Met Eireann status warnings, and aims to notify all participants by email and text at least 24 hours in advance if the event is to be postponed.

Safety is our first priority in circumstances where travel may be inadvisable. Please check emails and texts the day before and the day of the event.

When a workshop is postponed, a new date will be set as soon as possible and all confirmed participants will be offered a place. If you are not able to attend the new date, your booking fee will be refunded.
