This half-day seminar, hosted by LOOAG will look at the role of OT in delivering dignified care for plus-size patients.

The course content will include: 

  • Communication and preferred terminology
  • Moving and Handling patterns of movement
  • Societal Barriers to participation (built environment)
  • Stigma and Bias
  • Challenges / barriers when accessing services / health care
  • Understanding the impact of overweight on occupational performance
  • Role for OT

About the facilitator:

Tracey Carr is a leading advocate for the better care and understanding of larger patients. She is a passionate advocate for enabling larger people to live their self-acceptance at any size and determined to bring about the positive changes that are needed to ensure equity of care.

Tracey works as a Consultant to a number of Healthcare companies and as an advocate for better healthcare for plus sized patients. She has developed seminars on Maintaining Dignity of Care for the Supersized which she has delivered in person and remotely at a wide range of Hospitals and Clinical Training Establishments across the world. 

In addition, she works as part of a team delivering training in the moving and handling of Plus Sized Patients. She also advises a number of leading companies during the research and development stages of their product manufacturing processes.

LOOAG is the newest AOTI Advisory Group, established in 2021 in response to the exponential growth of overweight and obesity amongst children and adults in Ireland.
