Course Content:
This two-day training is designed specifically for new graduate occupational therapists (OT), early career OTs and/or OTs considering working with children, young people and their families. It is a toolkit covering all areas of OT clinical practice in the Irish context, and aims to equip therapists to deliver best practice to children and young people in their services. This course is provided over two days with a 6 week interval between the two dates.
Objectives
1. To provide training on the use of standardised assessments, including choosing appropriate assessments, administering assessments and interpreting scores and results.
2. To provide training on clinical reasoning skills and how to develop effective clinical reasoning skills to support OT practice.
3. To support application of current models of practice and frames of reference relevant to children's OT practice.
4. To develop effective support plans for home and school, supporting occupational engagement and participation. Demonstrate and outline how to formulate strength based report writing.
5. To support engagement in regular self-reflection and seeking supervision from experienced mentors in order to support early career OT’s to grow both personally and professionally. This is essential for well-being in our work.
