Launch of AOTI Position Paper on Wheeled Mobility and Seating Devices
New AOTI member resource published
We are delighted to launch our latest publication: Position Paper on Wheeled Mobility and Seating Devices which was developed by the Seating and Posture in Occupational Therapy Advisory Group (SPOTAG). You can download the position paper here - please log in to access this member resource. This position paper is the result of the work of numerous SPOTAG committee members who compiled the document over the last two years.
AOTI recognises the need for people to have access to appropriate wheeled mobility and seating devices to support and enhance their active and equal participation in society. Occupational Therapists advocate for the right for all people with wheeled mobility and seating devices to have equitable access to appropriate services. Working across a wide range of settings, Occupational Therapists assess for and prescribe wheeled mobility and seating devices.
This paper outlines the position being taken by AOTI and its significance to the profession of Occupational Therapy and wider society. The paper also highlights that services that provide wheeled mobility and seating devices are ad-hoc and lack uniformity across Ireland. A number of recommendations are made to ensure that appropriate systems are established for wheeled mobility and seating device provision for all.
We hope this position paper is a useful resource for you and encourage you to share it widely. We would like to congratulate and thank the Seating and Posture in Occupational Therapy Advisory Group for developing this valuable new resource for AOTI members.
