COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Magic Therapy workshop equips therapists with a new tool to motivate their clients to be more engaged in their treatment. The workshop offers a hands-on, interactive learning experience, grounded in the Model of Human Occupation, the PEOP Model, Incentive Theory of Motivation, Motor Learning Theory, and the Theory of Occupational Adaptation. The applications address the entire spectrum to include developmental and intellectual disabilities, mental health, physical disabilities, gerontology, and specific disease-related deficits. Research has demonstrated that incorporating simple magic tricks as a therapeutic approach can improve client cognition, motor skills, communication, social skills, and flexible thinking while increasing motivation, confidence, and self-esteem.
