The AOTI AG Assisted Decision Making (Capacity Act) 2015 Forum was established in 2025 as a collaborative forum of representatives from across AOTI advisory groups in response to the identified need to support members with implementation of the ADM Act in a variety of practice contexts. The ADM forum was established by the AOTI Management team, and will report to the Management team on Forum activities. The Forum will meet four times per year.

The ADM forum has invited participation from all Advisory groups, and will communicate and update AGs via the AG Strategy meetings, and circulation of updates to AGs on activities as they develop. The forum will consult AGs on document proposals at draft stage, and invite participation and feedback on all forum output.

The AOTI AG Assisted Decision -Making Forum agreed the following aims:

1. To highlight opportunities for Occupational Therapists to play an active part in the implementation of the ADM Act.
2. To define the role of occupational therapists when working to implement the ADM Act in practice.
3. To promote a best practice approach for occupational therapists in assessing and supporting decision-making by providing access to resources & supports to facilitate implementation of the ADM Act in context.
4. To provide professional networking opportunities for sharing practice knowledge, developing resources and promoting CPD events through online collaborative forum meetings, liaison with relevant AG memberships, emails, virtual and face-to-face meetings and study days.
5. The ADM forum will liaise with relevant national bodies when developing documents, CPD opportunities or resources. Examples include but are not limited to National Clinical programmes, the Decision Support Service and the HSE Human Rights and Equality Office.
