Exploring the Role of Occupational Therapy in Transgender Healthcare
This course will provide an introduction to the area of transgender healthcare, explaining key language and concepts, as well as the current healthcare context in Ireland. The course explores how occupation plays a key role in gender exploration and expression, and how Occupational Therapists can support individuals as they navigate gender transition. Divided across three well-paced modules, the course will help inform learners who do not have any prior knowledge or experience of the area, as well as those who are looking to learn more.
Niall Kirrane is a Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist, who combines his clinical and research experience working with the trans community to support Occupational Therapists who want to learn more about this emerging area of practice.

Part 1: An Introduction to Transgender Healthcare: Key Language & Concepts (30mins)

Expected Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this course, the learner will be able to:
1. Define the key terms and concepts relating to the area
2. Describe the different processes involved in transitioning and the current healthcare services available in Ireland
3. Outline common co-occurring needs in the Trans / Gender Diverse population and how these can impact on gender transition
4. Explain the role of Occupational Therapy in supporting occupational participation during gender transition
