CORU is responsible for regulating health and social care professions. It comprises the Health and Social Care Professionals Council and the Registration Boards established under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended).
CORU’s role is to protect the public by promoting high standards of professional conduct, education, training and competence through statutory registration of health and social care professionals.
Since March 2015, the title 'occupational therapist' is a protected one. Occupational therapists are required to be CORU registered in order to practice.
Registrants are required under the CORU Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics to enage in CPD, maintain professional knowledge and skills, maintain accurate CPD records and practice in areas of professional competence. Responsible practitioners engage in CPD as a means to keep their qualification up to date and to ensure the delivery of safe and effective services for the benefit of their patients and service users.
