We are delighted to have two experts in the area:

Maria Powers is a Drug and Alcohol Family Support Coordinator with the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force. Having worked in addiction related services in Australia and Ireland for 15 years, Maria strives to reduce the harm that substances can cause to individuals and families. Alcohol Related Brain Injury is a topic that she is passionate about promoting and educating people on, as it impacts many people who are dependent on alcohol and their families. Families and support workers, in particular, can play a fundamental part in identifying, preventing and treating ARBI and its symptoms, when they know what they are looking for.

Diane Watson is the Regional Outreach Clinical Lead for ARBI (threshold Services Northern Ireland). Diane has over 25 years' experience as a Neuro Occupational Therapist and is also an accredited SMART recovery facilitator. She is currently Vice Chairman of Northern Ireland Alcohol and Drug Alliance (NIADA) with a special interest in campaigning for the introduction of Minimum Unit Pricing in Northern Ireland. In addition, Diane guest lectures in Ulster University and Queens University and is the accredited Headway UK trainer for professionals, carers and solicitors on Understanding Brain Injury.
