New AOTI Report: National Occupational Therapy Oncology and Haematology Network Dataset Report 2023/24

AOTI is pleased to publish a new report from our Palliative Care and Oncology Advisory Group, presenting national data on Occupational Therapy oncology and haematology services across seven of Ireland’s eight designated cancer centres. The data was collected and the report was compiled by the National Occupational Therapy Oncology and Haematology Network with support from the Palliative Care and Oncology advisory group.

The report highlights significant demand for Occupational Therapy, alongside variations in staffing, waiting times and service provision. Findings demonstrate a clear need for greater investment in Occupational Therapy cancer services to support the rehabilitation and survivorship needs of people living with and beyond cancer.

The report makes a number of recommendations, including increased Occupational Therapy staffing, greater emphasis on cancer rehabilitation and the development of haematology-specific Occupational Therapy posts.

We encourage members and stakeholders working in cancer care to read the report and its recommendations.
