R.E.A.C.H.: Movement resources shaped by research and lived experience

Free Downloadable Resources from Chronic Pain Ireland

For someone living with chronic pain, movement is not as simple as being told to “exercise more”. Pain, energy, sleep and fatigue can change daily, making generic advice difficult to follow.

R.E.A.C.H. (Resources for Empowering Activity through Co-design and Health Literacy) is a new, free digital toolkit designed to help people make informed and personalised decisions about movement.

Led by Dr Kate Sheridan and Dr Hannah Goss from Dublin City University, the project was developed in partnership with Chronic Pain Ireland whose members were part of the HELP PPI Steering Group, with funding from Research Ireland’s New Foundations Scheme.

People living with chronic pain helped shape the resources through focus groups and co-design workshops. Their experiences were combined with research evidence and CPI’s knowledge of health literacy, self-management and supporting people with chronic pain.

The free toolkit includes:

· a Movement Decision Booklet;

· a Stories That Move You Booklet;

· a Movement Journal; and

· an instructional video series.

The resources recognise that movement is not one-size-fits-all. They offer a flexible approach that considers how a person feels on a particular day and may also be useful to healthcare professionals, families and community organisations.
