New AOTI Advisory Group - Occupational Therapy in Homelessness Advisory Group (OTHAG)
Excited to invite AOTI members to join our group.
We are the newly formed AOTI Occupational Therapy in Homelessness Advisory Group (OTHAG) and are excited to invite you to join our group.
Within Ireland it is motivating to witness the increasing number of occupational therapists who are employed to work distinctly with people who use homelessness services, both within statutory and voluntary organisations. However, for years, occupational therapists have been working with individuals and families who experience homelessness in their roles in physical health, mental health and multiple other settings.
As the number of people who experience homelessness continues to grow, Occupational Therapy holds a unique and necessary perspective now more than ever. Our distinct expertise is in supporting people to perform and participate in everyday activities, promoting the impact this can have on health and wellbeing, and highlighting the importance of occupational opportunities for people who are homeless.
We, as the Occupational Therapy in Homelessness Advisory Group, have a shared interest in this and want to highlight the value of the role and promote best practice.
Our aim as an Advisory Group is:
- to form a network of occupational therapists who have an interest in homelessness
- to develop expertise in the area and provide CPD opportunities
- to promote the role of OT in homelessness services and influence relevant policies nationally
Please join us if you have an interest in the area of homelessness – we welcome members from practice, education and research regardless of previous experience or knowledge in the area. We will be hosting some CPD events in the near future for members so keep an eye out for those details. You can become a member of our group here.
